Completed Korea’s largest functional coated glass production plant

Annual production of 10 million square meters of functional coated glass

Hanglass (CEO Lee Yong-seong), a leader in the domestic flat glass industry, held the ‘2016 Agency Presidents’ New Year’s Ceremony’ at the Gunsan Plant located in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do on January 21st. On this day, the ceremony was held to commemorate the completion of the largest functional coated glass processing plant in Korea by Hanglas.

The event, which was held with about 100 representatives of relevant organizations and agencies in attendance, also included a tour of Hanglas's recently completed functional coated glass production plant in the Gunsan Plant.

In particular, the functional coating glass processing plant of Hanglas, which invested 55 billion won in total, is the largest in Korea and boasts an annual output of 10 million square meters. It has the largest production facility in Korea and is characterized by being able to produce coated glass in the shortest time in Korea. Based on this, Hanglass evaluated that it was able to stably produce and supply high-functional and eco-friendly coated glass, which is in increasing demand every year. In addition, it plans to further solidify its position as the first and largest low-e glass producer in Korea.

The functional coated glass processing plant completed by Hanglas is capable of producing the largest jumbo size (3353×6,096mm) plate glass in Korea, which is twice the size of the existing maximum standard size. This corresponds to the largest standard among functional coated glass produced by domestic companies. By using jumbo-size coated glass, the cutting loss that occurs when cutting flat glass can be greatly reduced, thereby maximizing the cost reduction effect.

With the completion of the coating plant, Hanglas achieved a definite upgrade not only in production scale but also in quality. The functional coating glass processing plant is the only one in Korea capable of producing triple low-e glass following single and double low-e glass. Hanglas plans to produce single low-e glass in the first half of this year and double low-e glass in the second half of this year, and then expand the production range to triple low-e glass.

Meanwhile, after the factory tour, a New Year's ceremony was held for the agency presidents. In a greeting, Lee Yong-seong, CEO of Hanglas, said, “The completion of this functional coated glass processing plant will be the first in Korea to produce low-e glass and also the largest production capacity in Korea, allowing us to further strengthen Han Glass’s unrivaled competitiveness.” As an industry leader, we will continue to supply outstanding high value-added products stably with more responsibility.” Next, Executive Vice President Han Kwang-yeol made a presentation on the outlook for the flat glass market in 2016. Executive Vice President Han explained the positive and negative factors that will affect the flat glass market this year. As positive factors, an increase in the sale of private housing, a brisk reconstruction market, and activation of green remodeling were cited. In addition, government energy policies, strengthening safety regulations, and climate agreements were selected as issues that helped the growth of the flat glass market this year. On the other hand, the increase in household debt, the risk of unsold housing units, and supply control in the public sector are expected to be negative factors. He pointed out that the increase in the vacancy rate of office buildings, the slowdown in GDP growth rate, and the change in the demographic structure are variables that adversely affect the flat glass market. The total flat glass market this year is expected to grow by 3% from 1.36 million tons in 2015 to about 1.4 million tons.

Next, Director Woo Sang-sil of Hanglas prepared a time to look back on the history of Hanglass coated glass. Director Woo explained the background and advantages of the introduction of the coated glass processing plant, and had time to look at the trends in the coated glass market.

In addition, Hanglas held an awards ceremony for the best dealers in 2015. In 2015, Hannam Yuri was awarded as the best dealer in the country. And in 2015, Gyeongwon Glass Industrial Co., Ltd. and Namwon Korea Glass Trading Co., Ltd. were selected as the best distributors nationwide. Life Safety Glass Co., Ltd. and Daehan Glass Industry Co., Ltd. were awarded as Jinbo Agency in 2015.
